5 WAYS TO TRANSITION FROM WINTER TO SPRING

If your city is anything like mine, we got a little tease of spring last week and are now back to sub-zero winter temperatures yet again.

The battle for me is always figuring out how to get myself back on track to putting some effort into my outfits (because who are we kidding - my go-to "look" during the frosty months is hobo-not-so-chic) but staying warm enough to make it through a possibly colder-than-you-thought (or wished) kind of day.

MARY-KATE & ASHLEY OLSEN

Whether or not you liked them in Full House, MKA always master the comfy/classy combination. Investing in pieces that you can layer on a daily basis like a basic coat in a neutral colour and an oversize scarf will take your look a long way - especially when you add a pair of boots for the final touch.

CHRISSY TEIGEN

Chrissy Teigen looks badass AND warm with this (hopefully) faux fur look. Can't go wrong with distressed denim and leather for a glam touch.

STELLA MCCARTNEY

Can't go wrong with a chunky boot, boyfriend jeans and a cute hat, but leopard print and the mixing of the tones adds a little more interest.

Haylie Duff

Take note: I love the mix in textures - the nubby scarf, the slight wear on the bag. Great detailing on the shoe as well with the half peep-toe. I love this as a basic everyday outfit, dressed up or down with either heels or flats.

Sienna Miller Launches Twenty8Twelve in London

Take note: Sienna looked stunning at the launch of her latest Twenty8Twelve collection on Monday in London. Pair some chambray shorts with tights for those first few cool spring days, and have fun with textures with a nubby sweater.

One of my favourite looks from Madewell's Spring 2011 lookbook - can't wait until it's warm enough outside to wear this!

Jenna Dewan-Tatum

Take note: this spring, go hippie-chic (yes, a la Mary-Kate Olsen circa 2005) with a flowy maxi skirt and indulgent, yet easy-to-wear leather jacket. Jenna wears a skirt from Nicole Richie's line, Winter Kate.

Paul Smith FW11 RTW

If I thought Dolce & Gabbana was menswear-inspired, I apparently skipped over Paul Smith's most recent runway show. With a take on androgyny that is very heavily 70s inspired (think a healthy mix of Lauren Hutton, Ali McGraw in Love Story with a modern edge), Paul Smith created pieces that, depending on what they're paired with, can play different roles in the everyday wardrobe.

Key pieces: tailored and cropped dress pants, soft knit beanies, fitted blazers, thick cozy turtlenecks, quirky accent accessories - all in an array of rich colours and luxurious fabrics.

Kate Bosworth

Take note: Kate Bosworth pulls out an updated take on last year's romper - pair with tights and a cute jacket for those cool, rainy spring days.

Emma Roberts

Take note: Actress Emma Roberts keeps it simple with classic neutrals and minimal accessories. The star wears suede booties by Isabel Marant.

Knit Shorts

Take note: these knit shorts from Roboty Reczne are out of this world - I can't get over how great the fit is. My mission for spring? Find these shorts (or at least make them myself)!

Kate Beckinsale

Take note: Rocking the London look, English actress Kate Beckinsale left LAX airport wearing a very chic shearling and leather jacket. Add this classic style to your spring closet for what I promise will be your favorite spring jacket.

New York Fashion Week: DKNY FW11 Ready-to-Wear

DKNY's Fall 2011 RTW collection reminded us that spring fever is all about renewal - Donna Karen brought back hot reds, pinks, and popsicle oranges to bring us out of our winter funk. Ditch your bulky layers for some fun candy-inspired colours, and gear up for spring with some unique knits and shorter-than-short hemlines.

With inspiration from the men this time around, models donned tailored and cropped jackets, pants, and some awesome shoes. Check out the rest of the collection at style.com.

Take note: Monochromatic head-to-toe, leather. Kate can do no wrong.

Street Style

Take note: denim on denim can be tricky, but the key to mastering the look is to mix washes (even a subtle difference will make the cut). Adding bright colors (anything but blue!) will break up the look, and you simply can't go wrong with a good brown leather boot.
Try this: The Skinny Guy Jean in Broken Twill Selvedge by Naked & Famous, $140, karmaloop.com. The Fairhaven Boot in Brown Rough Out by Sebago, $140, karmaloop.com.
